Travel Vaccine Shortage

If you’re planning an international trip this summer or early fall, you should go ahead and get your travel vaccinations now. There is a current shortage of certain vaccine product such as that for Japanese Encephalitis, Yellow Fever and Rabies (for pre-exposure). People traveling to China for the summer Olympics or to other Asian countries are those most likely to get vaccinated for Japanese Encephalitis whereas Yellow Fever areas are Africa and central South America. People traveling into remote areas of the world would sometimes get three doses of rabies vaccine which is given pre-exposure.  However, that vaccine is now restricted for individuals who have been injured by a potentially rabid animal.

If you may need any of the vaccines listed above, we suggest you call our travel nurse as soon as possible at 247-5702, ext. 271. For all other travel consults and vaccines, please call and schedule your appointment at least 4-6 weeks before your departure date. All travel consultations and vaccinations are done by appointment only. Click here for more information on travel vaccinations.
