Flu Clinics Begin

San Juan Basin Health Department's Durango office is offering Friday Flu Clinics beginning October 10th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday, November 21st. (Click here for Pagosa Springs Flu Clinic schedule) Children age 9 and older are also welcome. These clinics will be held at San Juan Basin Health Department at 281 Sawyer Drive in Bodo Park. Children ages 6 months to 18 years old can also receive flu shots or flu mist at the Monday immunization clinics  from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. by appointment only.

To schedule an appointment, call 247-5702. Please note that there is plenty of vaccine this year and there's no need to feel rushed to get your flu shot. Individuals can get flu vaccines into November and early December and still be protected. Read San Juan Basin Health's article in the Durango Herald (October 1, 2008).

Additional information regarding flu vaccinations for babies six (6) months of age through individuals age 18 years  Children 6 mo. through age 8 who are receiving their first dose of flu vaccine ever will need two doses one month apart; the first is a Primer, the second a booster dose to get their immune system ready.
We do have three types of vaccine this year
Preservative free flu – for infants 6mos old to < age 3.
Regular flu vaccine (trace of Thimerosol) for kids age 3 and older
Flu mist – for kids 2 and older (nasal mist)
