Free Adult Immunizations
August is recognized as National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This is the perfect time to remind family, friends, co-workers, and community members to catch up on their vaccinations. Parents are enrolling their children in school, students are entering college, and healthcare workers are preparing for the upcoming flu season.
This year, San Juan Basin Health Department is making it convenient and FREE for adults to get current on some of their immunizations. Parents can join their teens and children when they come for back-to-school immunizations. Or they can come on their own for a free shot in the arm. Free vaccinations for adults include: the whooping cough and tetanus combination, pneumonia and chicken pox. Call 247-5702 for an appointment La Plata County or 264-2409, ext. 0 in Archuleta County. Quantities are limited.
Immunization is one of the most significant public health achievements of the 20th century. Vaccines offer safe and effective protection from infectious diseases. By staying up-to-date on the recommended vaccines, individuals can protect themselves, their families and friends, and their communities from serious, life-threatening infections.
This free vaccination offer is made possible through a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. For more information on San Juan Basin Health Department’s immunizations program, click here and what vaccines are recommended for adults, click here.
